Q 5 Storm Damage: Both waterfront property owners on the LI Sound and waterfront owners and dock owners on the creeks and bays are faced with challenges such as ice damage to docks, gradual erosion from storm surges and Nor’easters, and hurricane damage and erosion. What background or experience gives you a full appreciation of these problems that waterfront property owners confront on a continuing basis?
More Storms on the Way
Josh Einiger of Channel 7 Eyewitness News reports on local preparation for another storm due to arrive in Southold Friday January 7th 2011. Still reeling from the last one, Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said,
FEMA Assessment Teams arrive on the NOFO following blizzard
Ten days after the blizzard struck the North Fork coastline, FEMA and the S.C Office of Emergency Management showed up this week to inspect the damage to infrastructure and property along the coastline in Southold, caused by winds reported to be as high as 60 – 70 mph that buffeted the coastline December 26th to 28th last year. The first team, called the Public Assistance Team (PA) arrived Wednesday Jan 5th, followed by the Individual Assist Team (IA) on Thursday Jan 6th 2011.

Breaking News: Emergency Permitting underway to save homes and Route 48
The storm that arrived on the East End of Long Island yesterday in Southold is not one that will be forgotten. While the snow did not materialize as much as forecast, the wind is exceeding all expectations and has caused major damage to both town assets and private property alike. Town Beach took a major hit. Areas of Soundview Avenue just west of Route 48 disappeared. Every home along the Long Island Sound in Southold Town seems to have been affected in some way. John Betsch, a resident of North Sea Drive, Southold, and Chair of Southold VOICE, who lost lost six vertical feet of beach in front of his house, stated,
