I bet you didn’t know that your Board of Directors meets every month!

We meet monthly to go over finances, budgets/expenditures, new and ongoing projects and conceptual ideas for SV to consider, as well as other issues important to the membership.  Each Board member accepts their responsibility very seriously and should be congratulated for their efforts. Give them an “Atta-Boy” next time you speak with any of them.

Call to Action – Area Coordinators

by

Why do we need Area Coordinators?
Because we want you to be part of our success! We are experiencing an enthusiastic growth in membership from people with diverse interests. We are receiving unique requests that are specific to some Southold Communities. SoutholdVOICE wants to be able to answer those questions with knowledge and experience, and to grow into a valuable resource for sharing information, member to member, area to area.

What does an Area Coordinator do?
Simply put, an area coordinator is a “shepherd” who facilitates and helps organize a particular neighborhood’s activities. For SoutholdVOICE to achieve the best it can for each area, its members and their particular issues, a spokesman, a shepherd, an Area Coordinator is needed for each locale. You will be responsible for identifying issues of importance to your area, and will work towards recommended solutions, together with other area coordinators and SoutholdVOICE sub-committees, where relevant and common issues are found. You will help produce written reports from time to time, which will suggest policy recommendations for the Board of SoutholdVOICE.

Which areas need Coordinators?
All of them! For reasons of consistency, we are currently using the same areas as the LWRP (to which we are all subject at this time). This defines areas in a very particular way. As needed, SoutholdVOICE may expand or subdivide the LWRP areas. Southold Town is divided into ten “Reaches”. Reaches is a nautical term used to describe a stretch of shoreline between two easily distinguishable landmarks as seen from the water.

The ten Reaches are:

  1. LI Sound from Southold Town Line to Duck Pond Point
  2. LI Sound from Duck Pond Point to Horton Point
  3. Horton Point to Rocky Point
  4. Rocky Point to Orient Point
  5. Orient Point to eastern boundary of the Village of Greenport
  6. Western boundary of Greenport Village to Founders Landing
  7. Founders Landing to Indian Neck, Peconic
  8. Indian Neck to Halls Creek, Cutchogue
  9. Halls Creek to Riverhead Town Line
  10. Fishers Island

Membership

by

Southold VOICE covers all the towns in Southold, from Laurel, to Mattituck, New Suffolk, Cutchogue, Peconic, Southold, Greenport, East Marion and Orient. At the first meeting on May 19th, our membership was divided roughly into 10 Working Groups according to location. However, the Organizing Committee feels that for the immediate future, it could be counterproductive to split the membership into separate groups, hence the decision has been taken to remain unified as one group for the time being.
