BOARD OF DIRECTORS

John Betsch, Chair: Enjoying the abundant natural resources of Southold Town, John understands and appreciates the need to get involved in issues that affect our extensive waterfront and specifically where the “blue meets the green.” John became involved in SV because he recognizes the need to take an active role in our community to work with fellow citizens, stakeholders, organizations and leaders to preserve and protect these resources – from Laurel to Orient – for future generations to enjoy. Dianne Castaldi

Dianne Castaldi

Dianne Castaldi, Vice Chair and Membership & Events Committee Chair: Dianne Castaldi has been a year round part time resident of the Town of Southold for the past 22 years. After 20 years of owning and managing a store front travel agency she returned to college and in 2003 received a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. She presently works in the accounting department of a large construction company in New York.

As to why she became involved in SoutholdVOICE she stated “I have watched the Town of Southold grow into an active prosperous waterfront community. I feel that an organization like SoutholdVOICE is long over due and offers the citizens of our town a united voice for their waterfront. She states, “I am proud to be on the Board of Directors of SoutholdVOICE and will be devoted to the development and application of our cause.”

Fran Sladkus, Secretary: Fran and her husband have been residents of Laurel for fifteen years, first as year-round part-timers, more recently permanently. A lifetime of exposure to waterfront living has given Fran a deep love of the sea and its wonders. Careful consideration of the environment to preserve this treasure has been a primary goal of hers since arriving on the North Fork. She believes in a calm, measured approach to the challenges that face waterfront homeowners, but feels strongly about finding avenues to increase cooperation between waterfront homeowners and the town, the trustees, the DEC and the Army Corps of Engineers by reaching out to fellow residents who share the common goals of SoutholdVOICE.♦

After her family’s Soundfront home was severely damaged by the Nor’easter of 1994, Lynn initiated an awareness campaign regarding the Sound’s serious beach erosion and the potential breach to County Road 48. John Kramer, SoutholdVOICE

John Kramer

John Kramer, Founder and first Chair of the Board, former Treasurer: John Kramer retired from the Board of SoutholdVOICE in early 2011, but continues to be an active member, organizing our bi-monthly newsletter distribution in the Town. Born and raised in Southold, he began rowing and sailing home built crafts in Town Creek at age 8. After the Army and college and a few years in the life insurance business, he started a general insurance agency in Southold with a partner, then sold his interest and retired in 2007. John Kramer’s idea of an organization to help involve those who live on the water in the discussions and regulations about the creeks and bays and beaches was born from his seeing so many second home owners come to Southold only to be entrapped in battles with agencies and departments of the local government for the lack of knowing the rules and procedures.
